Dr. Russell Witte is a Tucson native and an expert in developing advanced imaging technologies through his Experimental Ultrasound and Neural Imaging Laboratory (EUNIL) at the University of Arizona. His doctoral research focused on sensory coding and learning-induced plasticity in the mammalian brain using chronic microelectrode arrays. Since returning to Tucson in 2007, Dr. Witte has pioneered hybrid imaging techniques that integrate ultrasound, light, and microwaves to diagnose and treat various conditions, including chronic tendon disorders, arrhythmias, and breast cancer. His innovative work in photoacoustic imaging, acoustoelectric imaging, and elasticity imaging aims to enhance patient care through improved diagnostic capabilities. He collaborates with colleagues across multiple disciplines and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of researchers in neuroscience, neural engineering, and biomedical imaging.
