Maria Altbach, PhD, is a Professor of Medical Imaging and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona, specializing in the development of MRI techniques with a focus on abdominal imaging. Her research group pioneers radial MRI acquisition and reconstruction strategies that produce motion-insensitive images with high spatial and temporal resolution, enhancing diagnostic capabilities. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Altbach has led NIH- and American Heart Association-funded projects aimed at improving imaging efficiency, patient throughput, and disease quantification. She is also a dedicated mentor, having trained 16 PhD and MSc students and 7 postdoctoral fellows, many of whom have advanced to roles at prestigious academic and research institutions.
